Gayle Devers, Olympic champion and UCLA alumna, is the subject
of "Godspeed," the latest movie filmed on campus.

"’Godspeed’ is the inspirational story of Gayle Devers, who
battles Graves’ disease to become the world’s fastest woman in the
’92 Olympics," said Steve Rubin, a Showtime spokesperson.

The made-for-television movie stars Charlene Woodard as Devers
and Louis Gosset Jr. as Bob Kersee, her track coach. Gosset also
produced the film.

The movie’s overall message is, "if there’s something you want
bad enough despite the obstacles, if you stick with it you’ll get
it," Gosset said.

The movie is authorized by Devers who is involved in the movie’s
production.

A film crew of more than 80 people converged upon Drake Stadium
Friday and Saturday, filming for 12 hours each day. The entire
24-hour period will probably translate to only 15 minutes of film
time, said second assistant director Kelly Kiernan.

The movie is scheduled to air on Showtime in June, right in time
for the ’96 Olympics.
