Women’s golf finishes seventh at Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic

The UCLA women’s golf team finished in seventh place at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic this weekend.

The tournament’s first round began Friday with the traditional 18-hole stroke play. The Bruins ended up scoring the lowest and grabbed the top seed heading into the second round.

Saturday and Sunday, the second and third rounds consisted of paired individual match play where the Bruins lost twice against USC and Baylor.

The match play against USC saw sophomore Bronte Law and senior Erynne Lee lose their matchups but both bounced back against Baylor with Law winning her match play and Lee halving in hers.

Freshman Lydia Choi won her USC match play but wound up losing against Baylor, while the other freshman competitor Erin Choi lost both match plays against USC and Baylor.

However, a day two standout for the Bruins was junior Louise Ridderstrom who led the team in scoring in the second round. She won her match play against USC and halved against Baylor.

The last round would be more fortuitous for UCLA as they defeated Arkansas in match play to capture seventh place.

Ridderstrom couldn’t follow up her team-leading day two performance as she lost her match play in the last round. Lydia Choi also lost in the last round after getting off to a good start against USC on day two.

However, Lee, Law, and Erin Choi bested their match plays, giving UCLA a 3-2 victory over Arkansas.

Women’s golf’s next event will be at the PING/ASU Invitational starting April 10.
