What is unity, anyway?
Editor:
It really makes you think and it really made me sad.
After winning the National Championship, one of the greatest
moments in the history of this university, Ed O’Bannon gave credit
to the force most responsible for the team’s victory: God. God gave
these players their talents, and as Ed mentioned, it was their
faith in His power that guided them to victory. Hats off to you,
Ed.
Why the sadness, then? Because true unity only occurs at UCLA by
means of sporting events. On Monday night, you probably slapped
hands with people you might make fun of if you saw them on Bruin
Walk. What’s wrong with this picture?
For some, Monday was probably one of the few nights for seeing
everyone as a brother or sister. Unfortunately, it was as a brother
or sister of UCLA. Wouldn’t it be great if people treated each
other as brothers and sisters every day? Instead of experiencing a
National Championship once a year, we could experience one every
day under God.
Thanks to the UCLA team for believing and for having faith. You
guys were awesome.
