3 UCLA men’s soccer seniors selected in MLS SuperDraft

Three UCLA men’s soccer seniors saw their names picked at the 2015 MLS SuperDraft.

After earning many postseason awards including the MAC Hermann Trophy and Soccer America Men’s Player of the Year, senior midfielder Leo Stolz was drafted by the New York Red Bulls with the No. 18 draft in the first round Thursday.

Tuesday in the third round of the draft, teammates redshirt senior goalkeeper Earl Edwards Jr. and defender Aaron Simmons joined Stolz in the MLS.

Edwards was selected by Orlando City Soccer Club as the first pick of the third round, finishing his career as a Bruin with 37 wins, 19 shutouts and a 1.07 goals against average.

Eight picks later, the Philadelphia Union selected Simmons with the ninth pick of the third round as the third and final Bruin selected in the draft.

At least three Bruins have been selected in the MLS Draft each of the last six years.
