The University of California Board of Regents will vote on the creation of a new advisory committee on the cost structure of the University and will discuss Gov. Jerry Brown’s budget proposal, among other topics, at its meeting at UCSF Mission Bay on Wednesday and Thursday.
Wednesday
- The President’s Task Force on Preventing and Responding to Sexual Violence and Sexual Assault will update the Committee on Educational Policy on the implementation of some of its recommendations, which were slated to go into effect in January. The recommendations include establishing a confidential advocacy office for sexual violence and sexual assault on each campus and establishing response team models at all UC campuses, among others.
- The Committee on Compensation will discuss the appointment and salary of the UC Office of the President’s executive vice president – chief operating officer. Some of the chief operating officer responsibilities include overseeing the human resource administration and the UC’s systemwide budget. Committee members will approve the appointment on Thursday.
- The Commission on the Future will present a status report on its recommendations to the Committee on Long Range Planning. The commission formed in July 2009 to address the University’s rising costs amid reduced state funding.
- The Committee on Long Range Planning will hear a proposal for the establishment of the Select Advisory Committee on the Cost Structure of the University. This new committee, proposed by Brown, seeks to reduce the University’s cost structure while maintaining its quality of education and increasing its accessibility.
- The President’s Working Group on Coaches/ Athletic Director Compensation and Student-Athlete Academic Performance will recommend to the board that student athletes be required to meet certain academic performance standards before coaches can receive any incentive payment.
Thursday
- The Committee on Finance will hear an update from executive vice president and chief financial officer Nathan Brostrom on Brown’s budget proposal for 2015-2016.
- The Committee on Health Services will listen to a presentation on the student mental health services at UC campuses and how increased student service fees will affect these programs.
- The Committee on Grounds and Buildings will discuss the University’s annual report on sustainable practices, which includes updates on presidential initiatives like the Carbon Neutrality Initiative.
- The regents will vote on a proposal that gives the president and chancellors the authority to make appointment and compensation decisions for certain coaches and other athletic employees.
