An interim sexual harassment and Title IX officer will begin work at UCLA Monday, after former Title IX officer Pamela Thomason left UCLA earlier this month to oversee Title IX training and education in the California State University system.
Cherie Scricca, who has worked as an administrator and consultant at several major U.S. universities, including Occidental College, UC Davis and USC, will begin working as an interim officer Monday, university spokesman Tod Tamberg said in an email statement.
Scricca most recently served as an executive consultant to the Title IX coordinator at Occidental College, working to improve their sexual assault responses, Tamberg said.
Title IX officers process complaints on campus, including reports of sexual harassment, assault and stalking, related to Title IX, which prohibits gender-based discrimination.
Occidental’s sexual assault responses have been under public scrutiny since a series of news stories exposed possible problems with its sexual reporting policies. Scricca was tasked with suggesting improvements to the school’s Title IX office during her time at Occidental.
Both UCLA and Occidental are currently under federal investigation for possible Title IX violations.
Scricca and Occidental’s Title IX officer Ruth Jones could not immediately be reached for comment.
Administrators are searching for a permanent replacement for Thomason, and the position has been publicly advertised, Tamberg said. He added that officials hope to choose a permanent replacement in the next three months.
Neither UCLA nor Occidental could be reached for further comment.
