W. golf: Bruins take third on Stanford green

The No. 2 UCLA women’s golf team completed one of the most
successful tournaments in school history Sunday at the Stanford
Invitational on the Stanford Golf Course in Palo Alto.

The Bruins posted a new 54-hole record of five under par to
finish the tournament alone in third place. UCLA was one of only
three teams to break par for the tournament.

Top-ranked Duke blew away most of the 18-team field to capture
first place, compiling a 19 under par total over the three-round
tournament.

Washington finished in second-place at 14 under par.

Arizona’s Erica Blasberg and Duke’s Elizabeth
Janangelo tied for medalist honors, both shooting seven under par
for the invitational.

Junior Charlotte Mayorkas led the way once more for the Bruins,
finishing in a tie for sixth place at three under par.
Mayorkas’ tournament did not include an over-par round, as
she shot rounds of 71, 70, and 72, respectively. This is the third
consecutive tournament in which Mayorkas has posted a top-10
finish.

Senior Hana Kim continued her strong play with an even-par
tournament, landing her in a tie for 15th place. Kim’s
tournament included a first round one under par 71.

Senior Gina Umeck finished one shot behind Kim, finishing tied
for 18th place at one over par.

Sophomore Susie Mathews, who entered Sunday’s final round
tied for 10th place at two under par, struggled in her final round
with a five over par 77. Mathews still posted a top-25 finish,
tying for 24th place at three over par.

Senior Bridget Dwyer, who was coming off a top-10 finish at the
Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in Washington, finished the
tournament at four over par and in a tie for 27th place.

Senior Saki Uechi, playing as an individual, shot six over par
for the tournament.
