Police search for man who sexually battered woman on Sepulveda

University police are searching for a man who sexually battered a woman Tuesday near a UCLA student housing complex on Sepulveda Boulevard.

The woman was walking south on Sepulveda Boulevard near the University Village housing complex around noon Tuesday when the man walked past her, according to a UCPD alert. He then turned around and grabbed the woman, police said.

UCPD added that the woman is not a UCLA student.

After the battery, the man ran across Sepulveda Boulevard and southbound toward Palms Boulevard, police said.

The man was described as black, 30 to 40 years old and 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet tall, with a slim build, dark complexion and afro-style hair. He was wearing a black hooded sweater or jacket, dark or possibly grey sweatpants and shoes that may have been sneakers.

No further information was immediately available. The case is still under investigation.

A series of recent crimes in and around the University Village have prompted calls for increased security in the area. The housing complex is home to thousands of UCLA graduate and professional students.

In recent months, police have reported burglaries and an armed robbery in the area.

Anyone with information about this incident or similar incidents can call UCPD at (310) 825-1491.
