Track and field hosts Jim Bush SoCal Championships

The Jim Bush SoCal Championships approaches this weekend, which will provide a small breather in the tournament season for UCLA track and field.

Jim Bush, for whom the tournament is named, is a national Track and Field Hall of Fame coach who coached at UCLA from 1965 to 1984. His tenure as a UCLA coach garnered five national championship titles and the coaching of 30 future Olympians.

The Southern California Association championship meet is named in his honor for his great work of coaching track and field in the Southern California area, after spending a career coaching at the high school, junior college and university levels.

The meet will bring together world-class athletes in a friendly but competitive environment at Drake Stadium Saturday.

Athletes from around the world, both professional and recreational, gather to compete in the annual meet.

Last year, highlights included world-class high jumper Nick Ross breaking the meet record.

This year is sure to contain some surprises as well with the plethora of high competition and athletes from all over the world.

The regular schedule will continue next Wednesday when the Bruins will take their best to Eugene, Ore., in the NCAA national championship.
