GSA recap – May 28

The UCLA Graduate Students Association is the voice of graduate students on campus. The association meets for forum every three weeks and takes positions on current issues affecting graduate students. Forum meetings are at 7 p.m. in the Ackerman Union’s Global Viewpoint Lounge.

Agenda

  • Cindy Stanphill, GSA elections commissioner, swore in the new GSA officers for the 2014-2015 school year at the end of the meeting.
  • Forum members voted to add a voluntary campaign spending cap to the GSA elections code with an 8-7-0 vote.

Officer reports

  • Outgoing GSA President Nicole Robinson was not present at the meeting but emailed forum members her officer report. She said in the email that she is going to leave the decision for GSA to rejoin the University of California Student Association to incoming GSA officers.
  • Outgoing GSA Vice President of Internal Affairs Nina Drucker asked for forum members to turn in a survey she distributed to them recently for feedback on her work this year.
  • Outgoing GSA Vice President of Academic Affairs Cody Trojan said he spoke with the dean of the Graduate Division about securing more grants for graduate students.
  • Outgoing GSA Vice President of Academic Affairs Hope McCoy said the last UCLA Alumni Association Board of Directors meeting is next week. She also mentioned that she is looking forward to taking over the position of vice president of internal affairs next year.

Special presentations

  • Rachel Corell, director of the UCLA Volunteer Center, presented several ways graduate students can get involved with the center’s programs and activities.
