USAC Recap – May 27

The Undergraduate Students Association Council is the official student government of UCLA’s undergraduate students. Council meetings are Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in Kerckhoff 417 and are open to all students. Watch a live stream of the meeting on the USAC Live! YouTube channel.

Agenda

  • The council approved capital contingency programming allocations with an 11-0-1 vote.

Special Presentations

  • Rachel Corell, the director of the UCLA Volunteer Center, presented a PowerPoint about how the center operates and the events it has held during the 2013-2014 year.

Officer Reports

  • USAC President Devin Murphy said he talked with Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Janina Montero about a press release about the Joint Statement on USAC Ethics his office sent out last Thursday. Murphy said he and Savannah Badalich, the Student Wellness commissioner, will be meeting soon to discuss a mental health campaign.
  • Internal Vice President Avinoam Baral said some members of USAC and transfer student advocates met last Thursday to draft bylaws that will outline the role of the new transfer student representative on council. He also encouraged other councilmembers to come to the ad hoc meeting this Thursday.
  • External Vice President Conrad Contreras said he had a conference call with the communications director of the University of California Student Association, and he gave a report about working with UCSA to include voter registration information and forms in first-year and transfer student orientation packets.
  • Academic Affairs Commissioner Allyson Bach asked councilmembers to show support for Humans of UCLA event Bruin Hangout on Wednesday.
  • Facilities Commissioner Carlos Quintanilla said he is working to improve the relationship between E3: Ecology, Economy, Equity and the Facilities Commission.
  • Students Wellness Commissioner Savannah Badalich said she met Tuesday with Raja Bhattar, the director of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Resource Center, about making more restrooms on campus gender inclusive. She also said she plans to hold a forum next week for students to discuss the recent University of California at Santa Barbara shooting.
