All 24 of UCLA’s Division I teams scored above the minimum in this year’s NCAA Academic Progress Rates, the school announced Wednesday.
APR, which measures the eligibility and retention of all of a school’s student-athletes is calculated based on a four-year period, the most recent report showing rates from 2009-2010 to 2012-2013. Scores are out of 1000, with 1000 signifying that every student-athlete on a team returned to school and remained eligible throughout the four-year period. The NCAA requires a minimum score of 930 for teams to remain eligible to compete in the postseason.
Eighteen of UCLA’s 24 teams scored above 970, with women’s golf leading the way with a perfect score of 1000, the fifth straight year the team has done so.
“Our student-athletes face rigorous challenges both in the field of competition and in the classroom,” said UCLA Athletic Director Dan Guerrero in a press release. “By embracing those challenges at UCLA, one of the strongest academic environments in the entire country, they have shown that if you set your mind to something, it can be accomplished. Without their hard work and perseverance, as well as the high level of dedication and professionalism displayed by our staff members in academic support services, this achievement would not be possible.”
Both football and men’s basketball improved their scores this year, with football’s scores ranking No. 14 nationally and No. 2 in the Pac-12 with a multiyear rate of 979. Men’s soccer’s score of 961 was the lowest of UCLA’s rates.
