Swimming team victorious over UCSD Tritons

While most of us struggled to relinquish the last few days of
break, the swim team had already greeted the new school year, and
their athletic competitors, with another winning meet.

Despite the promise of a new start in 2002, the UCSD Tritons
were incapable of breaking their streak of losses against the
Bruins during the eighth meet between the teams, Friday.

In La Jolla, Calif., the Bruins captured 12 of the 14 events at
the Canyonview Pool and now hold an 8-0 record against the Tritons.
The win puts the Bruins in an overall 6-2 score, with 1-2 in the
Pac-10 category.

Many of the individual swimmers won more than one event. In the
50 backstroke and the 150 back, sophomore Naoko Watanabe took first
place, while senior Jen Noddle took home the 150 breaststroke and
the 100 medley. Similarly, Junior LeAnne Cadag finished first in
both the 50 free and the 50 fly and also contributed in the 200
medley relay.

The combined efforts of the team overwhelmed the UCSD
competition. The meet finished with the Bruins beating the Tritons
in a 179-83 score.

The Bruins, however, did not become complacent with their recent
win, and look forward to competing against University of Illinois
this Wednesday at the Sunset Canyon Recreation Center on
campus.
