Petty theftOne cell phone, two backpacks, one
purse, one wallet and one bike were stolen over the past week,
totalling a loss of $1,538. Someone was seen stealing food from the
Center for Health Sciences cafeteria Wednesday. Also on Wednesday,
someone removed $20 windshield wipers from a vehicle at Sproul
Hall. Miscellaneous property, totalling $25, was stolen from the
Jules Stein Eye Institute locker room Nov. 20.
Grand theftA DVD player, 20 DVDs, a collection
of quarters and a checkbook were stolen from an apartment on the
400 block of Gayley Avenue. The loss totaled $600. On Sunday,
someone stole a camcorder from a vehicle parked in the Medical
Center parking lot. Someone removed an $800 spectralink phone from
the Center for Health Sciences on Sunday morning. A backpack and
its contents, worth $600, were removed from LuValle Commons between
1:30 and 1:40 p.m. Friday.
Miscellaneous Police received a report that
seven people were racing three cars at Lots 1 and 2 Saturday.
Someone stole a license plate and frame from a vehicle parked on
the corner of Westwood Boulevard and Kinross Avenue between 5 and
6:15 p.m. Thursday. An emergency room patient thought she might
have been exposed to anthrax because she received a letter from a
Washington, D.C. post office three weeks ago. The patient disposed
of the letter. Someone smashed the windshield of a car parked on
Veteran Avenue and Sunset Boulevard on Wednesday afternoon. A
suspicious fax was received in Perloff Hall Wednesday. Upon
investigation, it was found to be non-threatening. On Nov. 20, a
suspicious paper bag, which later turned out to be non-threatening,
was found in front of bushes by the Tiverton House. That same day,
police received a report that a man followed another person from
University Extension to Lot 1.
