Petty theft Three purses and one backpack were
stolen during this period. Someone cut a lock and removed a dark
blue 21-speed mountain bike from the 500 block of Veteran Avenue
between 11 p.m., Oct. 29 and 5:30 p.m., Thursday. The loss was
$300. Someone removed a $50 teapot from a room in the Westwood
Medical building between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Wednesday. Someone stole
a $3 notebook near a vending machine at the Center for Health
Sciences at approximately 11:30 p.m. Nov. 4. Someone removed a
proxy card from the ground at the entrance to Lot 3 around 7 p.m.
Nov. 1.
Grand theft A backpack was stolen from the
College Library reading room between 11 and 11:05 p.m. on Nov. 6.
The loss totaled $755. Someone stole a $450 bicycle that was parked
near Bunche Hall on Nov. 5 between 10:50 a.m. and 1 p.m. Someone
removed a $500 bicycle from the garage of a building on the 400
block of Kelton Avenue at an unknown time and day.
Miscellaneous Findings of white powdery
substances were reported six times last week. University police and
agencies working with the UCPD deemed none of the cases a credible
threat. A letter from Baghdad, Iraq was received at the Center for
Health Sciences at 10:45 a.m., Nov. 5. It was placed in a plastic
bag and is being investigated. Another suspicious letter was
received at Murphy Hall on Nov. 6. It was deemed non-threatening.
Police responded to a call about an unknown chemical at the Fir
Building of De Neve Plaza. Later, police booked marijuana and a
water-pipe for destruction. Someone was charged for assault with a
deadly weapon after he allegedly drove his 2000 silver Porsche into
a victim. The victim refused medical aid. Compiled from UCPD
