A UCLA student was injured in an explosion while reportedly conducting an experiment in a lab in the Engineering V building Saturday evening, officials said.
The student’s face, chest and neck were burned when an oven exploded at about 6:30 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. The student was taken to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, said Pete Benesch, chief of battalion 9 at the Los Angeles Fire Department. He is currently in fair condition, officials said.
The lab on the second floor is closed but the rest of the building is open and safe to be in. There was no fire and no formal evacuation, officials said.
