Sophomore guard/forward Kyle Anderson was named a third-team Associated Press All-American Monday after deciding to enter the NBA draft following UCLA’s season-ending loss Thursday.
Anderson, who averaged 14.6 points, 8.8 rebounds and 6.5 assists this season, is the first UCLA player to earn All-American honors since 2008 when Kevin Love and Darren Collison earned first- and third-team honors, respectively.
Behind Anderson, the Bruins’ 28 wins this year were the most since 2008, and their trip to the Sweet 16 was also the furthest the team advanced in the NCAA tournament since the team reached the Final Four, also in 2008.
Other guards who earned first- and second-team honors ahead of Anderson include Connecticut’s Shabazz Napier, Louisville’s Russ Smith and Cincinnati’s Sean Kilpatrick on the first team and Arizona’s Nick Johnson and Michigan’s Nik Stauskas on the second team.
Other third-team players include Wichita State’s Cleanthony Early, Kentucky’s Julius Randle, Syracuse’s C.J. Fair and Florida’s Scottie Wilbekin.
