The Daily Bruin took home 23 awards from the California College Media Association’s annual competition Saturday, including the top award for General Newspaper Excellence.
The Bruin won 10 first-place awards and 13 second- and third-place awards.
Four awards were given for different components of the newspaper’s series, “In the Shadows,” which detailed barriers to medical care for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community in Malawi, a country that outlaws homosexuality.
Other awards included first place in Best Overall Design, second place for General Website Excellence and first place for Best Back to School or Orientation Issue.
