The UCLA Academic Senate is currently accepting nominations for an annual award meant to honor students and faculty who promote an impartial and inclusive learning environment at UCLA.
Winners of the Academic Senate’s 2014 Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Award will receive $2,000 each. Members of the UCLA community may submit nomination packets through the Academic Senate website up until March 31.
The award recognizes one student and one faculty member who have worked to promote diversity at UCLA, according to an email statement from the Academic Senate Committee on Diversity and Equal Opportunity.
When determining the award recipients, the committee will examine each nominee’s contributions and achievements in encouraging a diverse academic community.
Examples of possible contributions include helping to develop academic mentoring programs and other outreach programs, or working to create spaces where students can speak openly about controversial issues, according to the Academic Senate website.
