Students First! members file petition with Judicial Board

A petition for a Student Judicial Board hearing has been filed against undergraduate student government President Gabe Rose, Facilities Commissioner Sherlyn Mossahebfar and Office Space Allocation Committee Chair Neilda Pacquing.

The petition was put forth by Cultural Affairs Commissioner Bernice Shaw of Students First! and Gregory Cendana, the Students First! campaign manager.

The petitioners allege that Rose, Mossahebfar and Pacquing violated office space allocation procedures and Undergraduate Students Association Council bylaws by holding secret meetings between Pacquing and Bruins United councilmembers regarding office space allocation deliberations.

Rose denied all charges, calling them ridiculous, and Mossahebfar said the allegations came as a surprise.

The two petitioners asked for the disbanding of the current committee and transferral of all office space allocation duties to the next council.

The petitioners also allege that Pacquing failed to forward allocation proposals to all councilmembers, which Pacquing said was an accident.

Suspicions arose during the council’s April 29 meeting when Pacquing presented a second proposal for office space allocations after withdrawing another proposal prior to the previous week’s meeting, which several councilmembers said they believe was a result of the off-table meetings held without all councilmembers’ notification. The office space allocations were again tabled for further discussion for the council’s meeting next Tuesday.

Rose said he would welcome a Judicial Board hearing to defend him.

“I would love to make a public hearing to show how ridiculous all this is,” Rose said.

“The fact that Students First! is willing to send what is supposed to be a nonpublic document to the media before they even tell the people they are suing shows the real reason behind this case ““ pathetic partisan politics,” he added in an e-mail.

The Judicial Board has yet to review the petition and has not made a decision to hold a hearing.
