California state officials are asking for UCLA student feedback about university officials’ responses to incidents of sexual assault.

In an emailed statement, Pamela Thomason, UCLA’s Title IX coordinator, said the California State Auditor is looking for students to participate in a survey researching university efforts to educate the student body about sexual assault prevention. The state auditor is also asking for students to comment on how university officials respond to student reports of sexual violence or harassment.

The California State Auditor is an independent auditing agency that offers assessments and feedback on California’s financial and operational entities, like the University of California, in line with government auditing standards, according to their website.

Earlier this year, state auditors announced that UCLA’s sexual assault policies would be under review to see if they are compliant with Title IX, a federal provision that protects students from sex-based discrimination from institutions that receive federal funds.

Students can request that their survey responses remain anonymous to the general public. The state auditor’s staff will see a student’s identity and response, but his or her individual response will not be published in the official report. If not specified to stay confidential, student responses will be made available to public disclosure, according to the emailed statement.

Interested students should email TitleIXSurveyDist@auditor.ca.gov, where they will receive a link and user identification code. State auditors estimate the survey should take 20 minutes, according to an emailed statement from the state auditor.

The survey closes on Feb. 28, according to the statement.

Correction: Students submitting feedback to the California State Auditor may opt for their responses to remain anonymous. In this case, only the state auditor’s staff would be able to see the student’s identity and reply.
