Following a 74-69 stunner in Salt Lake City on Jan. 18, UCLA wondered where its offense went for the entirety of the first half.
Nearly a month later, the Bruins appear to have found at least a piece of their first-half form. Despite shooting just 43.3 percent from the field, they lead 33-31 at the half.
Sophomore guard Jordan Adams made a layup with 14:26 to play, giving UCLA a 13-7 lead, its largest of the half. Utah continued to stay hot from three point, however, sinking five of their first eight attempts.
The Bruins managed to hold Utes sophomore forward Jordan Loveridge scoreless for the entire first half, and held junior guard Delon Wright, another Utah starter, to a pair of free throws and a dunk with less than a minute remaining.
After being held without a field goal in the first half last time out against Utah, Adams proved to be UCLA’s most consistent offensive weapon, making five of his eight field goal attempts for a team-high 12 points. Junior guard Norman Powell has nine points, while sophomore guard/forward Kyle Anderson has four points, five rebounds and three assists. Guard Brandon Taylor leads all Utah players with eight points, while forward Dakarai Tucker has six.
Sophomore forward/center Tony Parker and redshirt senior forward Travis Wear were limited to three and eight minutes, respectively, in the first half due to early foul trouble. Both players have committed two personal fouls.
