USAC Recap – Jan. 14

The Undergraduate Students Association Council is the official student government of UCLA’s undergraduate students. Council meetings are Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in Kerckhoff 417 and are open to all students.

Agenda

  • USAC approved contingency funding allocations with an 8-0-3 vote.

  • USAC voted unanimously to reverse its allocations of about $78,500 to different councilmember initiatives, and give the money back to funds that support student group programs.

Officer Reports

  • USAC President John Joanino said there will be a community forum on Jan. 22 involving USAC members, the On-Campus Housing Council, the Daily Bruin and other campus media outlets. He also said he will soon be involved in meetings about an endowment fundraising strategy for the rest of the year.

  • USAC Internal Vice President Avi Oved said his office is working on an Off-Campus Housing Fair, which will take place Jan. 16 in Ackerman Grand Ballroom. Oved and his Chief of Staff Avinoam Baral demonstrated videoconferencing software that could be used to live stream future USAC meetings.

  • USAC External Vice President Maryssa Hall said she attended a United States Student Association meeting last weekend. Hall also said there will be a Fund the University of California day of action for Proposition 13 reform Wednesday, Jan. 22.

  • USAC Academic Affairs Commissioner Darren Ramalho said his office is working on hosting a resume and cover letter workshop during week four.

  • USAC Student Wellness Commissioner Savannah Badalich said she is working with the L.A. police department to improve officer communication with victims of sexual assault. Badalich also said 7000 in Solidarity will hold Consent Week during week four.
