Analysis says majority of Congress are millionaires

More than half the members of Congress were millionaires for the first time in history in 2012, according to an analysis of financial data by the Center for Responsive Politics.

In 2012, at least 268 of the 534 then-members of Congress had an average net worth of more than $1 million, according to the analysis.

The median net worth of a Congress member was $1,008,767, an increase from $966,000 last year.

California assemblyman Darrell Issa, who represents parts of San Diego and Orange counties, had the highest reported average net worth at $464,115,018. Two other California members, Scott Peters and Nancy Pelosi, were also in the top 10 Congress members by net worth.

Henry Waxman, who represents the 33rd Congressional District, which includes UCLA and Westwood, had a net worth of about $1.2 million.

California senators Barbara Boxer and Diane Feinstein each reported net worths of about $3.3 and $68.4 million, respectively.

Congressional Democrats had a median net worth of about $1.04 million, while Republicans had a median net worth of about $1 million, according to the analysis.
