Attempted robbery of student reported in North Village

Two men attempted to steal a UCLA student’s cell phone in the North Village on Tuesday, according to a university police report.

The student was approached by the men on Levering Avenue just before 5:30 p.m. One of the men tried to grab the student’s cell phone, but the student was able to break free and run away, according to the report.

Both of the men then ran westbound on Levering Avenue toward Midvale Avenue.

No injuries were reported during the attempted robbery, said Nancy Greenstein, a spokeswoman for UCPD.

The men were both described as black, 16 to 22 years old and 5 feet, 6 to 8 inches tall with medium builds. One man was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans, and the other was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and red jeans.

The case is still under investigation.

UCPD recommends that individuals walk in groups at night and avoid walking with a cell phone in their hand.
