USAC Recap – Nov. 5

The Undergraduate Students Association Council is the official student government of UCLA’s undergraduate students. Council meetings are Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in Kerckhoff 417 and are open to all students.

Agenda

  • Contingency programing funds were approved with a vote of 10-0-2. Community Service Commissioner Omar Acre and Student Wellness Commissioner Savannah Badalich abstained from voting.

Officer Reports

  • USAC President John Joanino said this year’s UCLA Diversity Symposium will take place during week eight of winter quarter.

  • Internal Vice President Avi Oved said his office is working with the General Representative 2 Office on hosting USAC tours during an event for UCLA’s governing councils to meet students on the Hill.

  • External Vice President Maryssa Hall said this weekend at UCLA is United States Student Association’s GrassRoots Organizing Weekend, a training program for student organizers.

  • Academic Affairs Commissioner Darren Ramalho said Counselor Connect will take place during week eight of this quarter. Peer counselors will be in Kerckhoff Grand Salon.

  • Cultural Affairs Commissioner Jessica Trumble said her office is looking to hire more graphic designers.

Special Presentations

  • The California Public Interest Research Group (CALPIRG) urged the council to back a resolution that rejects a Supreme Court decision about campaign finance reform.

Appointments

  • Alex Mercier, a third-year political science student, was unanimously appointed to the John Wooden Center Board of Governors.
