USAC Recap – Oct. 15

The Undergraduate Students Association Council is the official student government of UCLA’s undergraduate students. Council meetings are Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in Kerckhoff 417 and are open to all students.

Agenda

  • USAC approved contingency programming fund allocations for this week with a 10-0-2 vote.

Appointments

  • The council approved Yasmeen El-Farra, a third-year international development studies and environmental science student, to be on the The Green Initiative Fund.

  • The council approved Kashif Iqbal, a third-year biology student, to be part of the Student Activities Center Board of Governors.

  • The council unanimously appointed Jose Ramos, a fifth-year political science and history student, to the Student Initiated Access Committee.

  • The council unanimously appointed Meredith Duncan, a second-year psychology student, to the USAC Undergraduate Council, the undergraduate body in the Academic Senate.

  • The council unanimously appointed Miriam Rodriguez, a fourth-year Spanish student, to the Committee on Undergraduate Admissions and Relations with Schools.

Officer Reports

  • USAC President John Joanino said he met with University of California President Janet Napolitano Friday. He added that he plans to meet with Napolitano again Monday with the UC Council of Presidents to discuss Title IX and UC Ship.

  • Internal Vice President Avi Oved said his office tabled at Tuesday’s Financial Literacy Day Fair. He also said his office is continuing to work on bringing a safety app to UCLA at no cost to students.

  • External Vice President Maryssa Hall said she wants Napolitano to come back to UCLA winter quarter and meet with a larger population of students. Hall also said her office is preparing for a protest tomorrow in support of affirmative action. The protest would be the second part of the “Days of Defiance II” protests this week.

  • Academic Affairs Commissioner Darren Ramalho said his office co-programmed a dinner on Thursday which encouraged students and faculty to talk about the diversity requirement at UCLA.

  • Student Wellness Commissioner Savannah Badalich said her office is looking to educate students and UCLA faculty and staff about 7,000 in Solidarity, a campaign against sexual assault. She said her office is working to make informational videos about the campaign that would feature UCLA staff and members of different students groups to reach out to more corners of campus.

  • Facilities Commissioner Armen Hadjimanoukian said student groups can email him about reserving space in Pauley Pavilion for the coming weeks.
