Students start petition opposing Napolitano’s appointment as UC president

University of California students have started a petition to prevent the appointment of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano as the next president of the University of California.

Undocumented students from DreamActivist.org posted the petition. They said the UC Regents have offended immigrant students at the University by nominating Napolitano, who has deported a large number of individuals from the U.S., according to the petition.

“(Napolitano) has no expertise in higher education, only in family separation, and no place in our public university system,” students said in the petition. “UC students deserve a President who values and educates all students, not one who deports them.”

The UC Regents’ nomination of Napolitano was announced early Friday. The board still needs to vote on her appointment at a meeting on Thursday in Mission Bay.

Many regents, California officials and federal officials have voiced support for Napolitano’s nomination, according to statements released Friday.

  1. Illegals should be deported. Immigrants are people who came, applied and followed the rules and laws.. Illegals broke the laws.
