UCLA Ackerman Turnaround and its bus terminal closed this week until the summer of 2016 to allow for the construction of the Meyer and Renee Luskin Conference and Guest Center.
The conference center will open in late 2016 on the site of the adjacent Parking Structure 6. The turnaround’s expansion will make for easier traffic flow and will allow it to accommodate up to seven buses, said Steve Ritea, a university spokesman.
Transportation officials have relocated bus stops, parking and university vanpool pick-up and drop-off locations in response to the bus terminal’s closure.
Buses usually arriving at UCLA Ackerman Terminal will now arrive at other locations on campus, according to a June 24 letter to administrative officials from UCLA Events and Transportation:
-
Students using the University Apartment Shuttle must use its new stop on Westwood Boulevard near the Jules Stein Eye Institute, according to the letter.
-
The northbound Big Blue Bus line will stop at Westwood Boulevard and Stein Plaza, while southbound buses will stop at Westwood Boulevard and UCLA Medical Plaza.
-
Culver CityBus Rapid 6 and Local 6 lines will arrive on the east side of Westwood Plaza at the Jules Stein Eye Institute, according to the letter.
-
The closest Metro bus stop to Ackerman Turnaround is at the southeast corner of Le Conte Avenue and Westwood Boulevard, according to the letter. Metro bus lines 2 and 302 used Ackerman Turnaround as a layover location, which has moved to the corner of Gayley Avenue and Le Conte Avenue.
- Passengers using the university vanpool service will now be picked up and dropped off on the southeast corner of Westwood Boulevard and Strathmore Drive, according to the letter.
- Daily visitors can no longer park in Parking Structure 6, and are advised to park at Parking Structure 8, south of Strathmore Drive.
