Jerry’s Famous Deli closed its doors on Friday, after 17 years in Westwood Village.

The restaurant did not generate enough business to afford the 12,000 square foot space, located on Weyburn Avenue near Broxton Avenue, said Ami Saffron, executive vice president of Jerry’s Deli.

The owners of the building told Saffron that they plan to open two different restaurants in the space after the deli’s lease expires in January 2014, he said.

The deli will close early because business is slow during the summer months, Saffron said.

In 2010, costumers were advised to get tested for hepatitis A after it was discovered that a restaurant employee contracted the infection.

Saffron said the publicity surrounding the infected employee hurt business but did not directly lead to the restaurant’s closing.
