A recent hiring scam that involved an individual allegedly posing as a recruiter from the UCLA Health System is the most recent in a string of similar incidents reported over the past three months, according to a statement released by the UCLA Health System on Thursday.
The victim allegedly sent the false recruiter several hundred dollars before realizing it was a hoax, according to the statement.
An individual looking for a job posted a resume to a website that was not affiliated with UCLA, according to the statement. The scammer then allegedly emailed the individual about a false job opportunity at the UCLA Health System.
The two allegedly participated in an online chat and interview. The scammer offered the person a job, which was accepted, and asked for $300 to fund computer materials for the job, according to the statement.
The person realized the job was a scam after paying the money and reported it to UCLA on Monday, according to the statement.
UCLA has never required its applicants to submit fees during the hiring process, according to the statement.
Representatives from the university police department and UCLA Health System could not be reached for comment.
