USAC Recap – May 28

The Undergraduate Students Association Council is the official student government of UCLA’s undergraduate students. Council meetings are Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in Kerckhoff 417 and are open to all students.

Agenda

  • The council approved contingency allocations with a vote of 9-0-1. Cultural Affairs Commissioner Jessica Trumble abstained from voting.
  • The council approved the summer quorum to be set at seven people with 12-0-0.
  • The council approved the summer meeting dates with a vote of 12-0-0.

Officer Reports

  • USAC President John Joanino said he is meeting with the Associated Students UCLA Board of Directors candidates on Thursday. He also said that Mark Yudof, president of the University of California, signed the Bruin Bash referendum last week.
  • Maryssa Hall, external vice president, said she is working to bring a student of color conference to UCLA next year.
  • Darren Ramalho, Academic Affairs commissioner, said he is in the process of looking for a faculty representative for council.

Special Presentations

  • Representatives from ASUCLA spoke to council about projects that ASUCLA is currently undertaking as well as will be carrying out in the future, such as the promotion of healthier food options in Ackerman food stores.
  • A representative from Students Collective Against Labor Exploitation came and spoke about the group and its goals. The representative also provided information about how current workers are protesting since their contracts have expired.
