When making any issue of prime, we place a lot of value on photography.
A lot of this might be because photos look gorgeous on glossy magazine pages, but we also hope to place as much emphasis on expressing stories visually as we do through writing.
In honor of the visual, we worked to provide content that focuses on exploring our surroundings through a different lens (camera puns intended).
See how photographer Sidhaant Shah used his camera to explore his home in India after being away for an entire year (“Colors of India”). But make sure to also take a look at how the UCLA community used Instagram to capture moments from basketball season on our very own campus (“#uclaprime”).
Read about how a unique collection of antique optical viewing devices allows Professor Erkki Huhtamo to make connections between past and recent media forms (“Media Maverick”). You can also watch a video of the devices in action by heading to dailybruin.com.
It can be notoriously easy to fall into a grind during winter quarter, but this magazine is sure to provide a much-needed study break. We hope you enjoy reading, and looking, through prime.
