University police are investigating the robbery of a UCLA student near the corner of Strathmore Drive and Gayley Avenue last week, according to a university police report released Friday.
About 3 a.m. Friday morning, the student was walking northbound near 505 Gayley Ave. when a man reportedly came up to her and grabbed a cellphone that was in her hand. The report stated that the man and the student briefly fought over the phone before he successfully pulled it from her hand and ran away. The man fled southbound on Gayley Avenue toward Strathmore Drive, according to the report.
The student did not report any injuries, the report stated.
Last week’s incident marks the third robbery reported in the North Village this year, according to UCPD.
Police encourage students to use the UCPD’s free walking escort service and to not walk alone at night. When confronted by a robber, students should comply with any demands the robber makes and get a detailed description of the robber to provide as much information as possible to help find them, according to UCPD.
The man connected to Friday’s incident was described in the report as black, between 20 and 30 years old, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet and about 160 pounds. He had black hair with a buzz cut and wearing a white collared long-sleeved shirt, baggy blue jeans and red high-top sneakers at the time of the incident, according to the report.
Anyone with information regarding Friday’s robbery can call UCPD at 310-825-1491.
