Adams not rattled by speculation

Amid speculation that he may be fired within the week, UCLA
baseball head coach Gary Adams has not let the pressure affect his
routine.

Adams has not met with athletic director Dan Guerrero, but the
two will likely meet sometime this week to discuss Adams’
future with the team.

Individual players are currently meeting with the head coach,
but nothing regarding the topic of these meetings seems out of the
ordinary. The 29-year-veteran head coach routinely holds
conferences with his players to discuss what each individual needs
to work on during the off-season.

Speculation regarding the imminent firing of Adams continues to
run rampant, and even pitching coach Gary Adcock can only provide
conjecture as to when Guerrero will enter discussions with
Adams.

“I have no idea when the meeting is,” Adcock said.
“I really don’t have any expectations.”

If the coaching staff is rattled, they certainly aren’t
showing it. Adcock accompanied hitting coach Vince Beringhele to a
high school game to scout possible recruits.

“We’re just going to continue coaching until someone
tells us not to,” Adcock said.

Adcock believes that the team performed well this season,
considering their inexperience and injury, though he concedes that
they could have performed better than their fifth-place finish.

“I think the team knows what might happen, but Adams has
done a great job of not making it a factor.”

Sophomore Wes Whisler was named to the All Pac-10 team, his
second selection in as many years. Whisler was the only Bruin to
make the team.
