The members of the UCLA chancellor search committee were not
disclosed on Tuesday as planned, but could be announced as soon as
today, officials said.
UC Office of the President Associate President Linda Williams
wrote in an e-mail last week that the “composition of the
UCLA Chancellor search committee will be finalized by
Tuesday” and that officials plan to make a press release at
that time.
But because getting telephone confirmations from the chosen
members took longer than expected, Williams said UCOP plans to
release the complete make-up of the committee today.
Noel Van Nyhuis, a spokesman for the UC Office of the President,
said a decision could come as late as Thursday.
The chancellor search committee is responsible for reviewing
prospects for the position of UCLA’s ninth chancellor and
forwarding a recommendation to the UC Board of Regents, which will
make the final decision.
The approval vote is scheduled to take place when the regents
meet at UCLA on March 16-17, 2006.
Chancellor Albert Carnesale’s announcement on Sept. 7,
2005 to step down as chancellor on June 30, 2006 necessitated the
creation of the committee.
Currently, four members are confirmed. Jenny Wood, president of
the Undergraduate Students Association Council, will serve as the
undergraduate representative. The graduate student representative
is Graduate Students Association President Jared Fox.
The other two confirmed members include UC Board of
Regents’ Chair Gerald Parsky, who will serve as an ex-officio
member, and UC President Robert Dynes, who will serve as the
chairman of the committee.
