Playground Pauley: a day on Dennis Koehne’s court

When you look at Pauley Pavilion – no matter the time of day – it’s likely that a man named Dennis Koehne is somewhere inside. Since graduating from UCLA with a degree in kinesiology in 1983, Koehne has worked as a facilities manager in the Wooden Center and Pauley Pavilion for more than 30 years. He also serves as a public address announcer for several UCLA sports. Driven by passion for his work (and, he says, very little need for sleep), Koehne works long hours guiding Pauley Pavilion through major events and day-to-day operations alike. Daily Bruin senior staff photographer Lexy Atmore photographed Koehne before and after the women’s basketball game against Arizona on Jan. 25, 2013. Koehne managed the arena’s preparation the day before, announced the game and oversaw the clean-up into the wee hours of the morning.
