University police this week released a sketch of a man in connection with last month’s hate crime that targeted a UCLA student.
Early in the morning on Jan. 18, the second-year student was walking south on Gayley Avenue to his dorm when two men pulled up in a dark-colored four-door sedan. One of the men allegedly held a knife to the student’s throat and said, “Die, faggot, die” while rubbing his hip.
The student said he did not know the men who attacked him, but said that he thought they might have been able to guess his sexual orientation based on how he looked and acted that night.
The student received a few minor cuts and bruises from one of the men’s tight grip on his arm, according to police.
Nancy Greenstein, a UCPD spokeswoman, said UCPD is still investigating the case but it is difficult to follow leads without a licence plate number or a more distinct description.
The man reportedly holding the knife was described by police as white, 26-27 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall and 160-170 pounds. He had brown eyes and a shaved head and was wearing a grey hoodie and blue jeans at the time of the incident.
The second man was described as Hispanic, about 26-27 years old, 6 feet 4 inches tall, 300 pounds, with long, black, slicked-back hair. He was wearing baggy clothing at the time of the incident.
Anyone with information about the incident can contact UCPD at 310-825-1491 or leave an anonymous tip at 310-794-5824.
