The lottery for the chancellor’s office hour has opened up for this quarter, and we urge students to take advantage of this opportunity.
We commend the chancellor for taking such an interest in student welfare, going as far as going up to the Hill and having breakfast meals with students in the dining halls.
Chancellor Gene Block has even gone as far as hosting dinners at his home.
Now it is the students’ turn to make an effort and apply to go to his office and meet the chancellor.
Block’s “Student Office Hour” will be on March 15 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
If you are a part of a student organization and would like to have the chancellor’s ear for a few moments, this is your opportunity.
Or, if you are just a student who would like to chat with the chancellor about the tiny Dykstra triple you are living in with no air conditioning or heating, this is a way for the chancellor to understand and acknowledge the experiences and concerns of the students he serves.
Indeed, the chancellor’s job is to advocate on behalf of the students at UCLA. We at the editorial board encourage the chancellor to continue holding more office hours, but we also insist that students actively participate in voicing their ideas and concerns.
Why not take the opportunity if he is willing to listen?
It is important that students take the initiative to speak for their needs and desires, regardless if they are promoting a certain agenda or not.
