Gov. Jerry Brown appointed four new regents to the governing board of the University of California on Friday.
The four new appointees to the UC Board of Regents are Maria Anguiano of Riverside, Howard “Peter” Guber of Los Angeles, Lark Park of Sacramento and Ellen Tauscher of San Francisco.
The regents, if confirmed by the state Senate, would receive no compensation.
Anguiano, who is is currently the chief financial officer at the Minerva Project, a for-profit education company, has previously worked as a vice chancellor at UC Riverside and in the UC Office of the President.
Guber is the chairman and CEO of Mandalay Entertainment Group, a film production and television production company. He is also member of the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television’s executive board.
Park is a senior advisor to Brown and has worked as a legislative aide for several state legislators. She received her undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley.
Tauscher, a former congresswoman, is a strategic advisor at Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC, a law firm. She is also part of the UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies’ National Advisory Council.
UC President Janet Napolitano said in a statement she looks forward to working with the new appointees.
“I look forward to learning more about their respective visions for higher education and to closely collaborating with them in the years ahead,” Napolitano said.
UC Board of Regents Chair Monica Lozano said in a statement she thinks the appointees’ diverse backgrounds will benefit the board.
Brown last appointed a regent in 2015, when he picked Gareth Elliott. Regents William De La Peña and Bruce Varner have terms that expire in March 2018.
