University police arrested a man Wednesday night outside Rendezvous, a UCLA residential restaurant, near Rieber Terrace.
Six police officers responded at about 10:28 p.m. to a call about an unauthorized individual on campus. Officers arrested the man, who is unaffiliated with UCLA, on charges of resisting an officer and violation of an order to stay away from campus, said UCPD Captain Robert Leinweber.
Leinweber said police responded to a call that a man with a stay-away order based on a prior incident had entered campus. He did not specify the nature of the incident.
The man, who appeared to be wearing a UCLA sweater, ran to Rendezvous, where he made contact with the building’s glass window. Officers, who first located the man near Bruin Café, used a taser to subdue the man after he resisted arrest, Leinweber said.
Lindsey Knight, a second-year biology student who was eating at Rendezvous, said she saw the man running toward Rendezvous and then get into a struggle with police.
“I heard a banging on the window, and saw a guy running,” she said.
Leinweber said the man was treated at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, is currently in UCPD custody and will be transferred to a Los Angeles County jail.
