Westwood residents and visitors will soon be able to use a new crosswalk on one of the longest blocks in Westwood Village.

A new pedestrian crosswalk is under construction on Westwood Boulevard between Weyburn and Kinross avenues, after the Westwood Village Improvement Association approved it last year. The crosswalk will be located toward the southern end of Westwood Boulevard and will go from Victoria’s Secret to Tanino Ristorante Bar.

Construction began last week and will likely end in mid-February, said Andrew Thomas, executive director of the Westwood Village Improvement Association. The city is waiting to install a new signal pole for the crosswalk which will arrive in two to three weeks.

The block where the crosswalk will be is more than 600 feet long, making it one of the longest in Westwood Village, resulting in jaywalking, Thomas said.

The city of Los Angeles will fund the crosswalk through the Great Streets Initiative. Westwood Boulevard was designated as one of 15 “great streets” in Los Angeles that would receive improvements.

The city will also reconstruct a sidewalk on the boulevard in March, between Le Conte and Weyburn avenues.
