Westwood BID recap – Sept. 15

The Westwood Village Improvement Association is a nonprofit organization tasked with improving the state of Westwood Village. Property and business owners created the association in 2011 to provide Westwood Village with functions the City of Los Angeles could not provide. Its board of directors meets monthly.

  • Executive director Andrew Thomas said the association distributed new walking maps of the Village and installed bicycle parking on parking meters.

  • Thomas said the parking, access and transportation committee met with the management of the Broxton parking structure to discuss improvements, such as pay-on-foot parking and regular cleanings.

  • Denise Garcia said the business attraction and retention committee met with officials from the farmer’s market to discuss expanding the number of market vendors.

  • The board increased Thomas’ salary to $135,000, not including benefits. Thomas will receive an additional paid day off and a potential bonus of up to 10 percent starting in 2017. He will also receive optional salary increases of one to four percent starting in 2018, depending on his performance.

  • The board approved its 2017 budget. The association will hold a $100,000 surplus next year and increase holiday and event spending by 50 percent. It will also have to increase its Westwood Ambassadors service to accommodate a citywide minimum wage increase.

  • The board will create an ad hoc committee to discuss architect John Kaliski’s recommended changes to the specific plan with Councilmember Paul Koretz’s office.
