“Stiffing” is such an inappropriate word here. The Ackerman market is run by ASUCLA, our student organization. UCLA is one of the few colleges left in the U.S. in which places such as Ackerman are run by a student organization. All profits made from ASUCLA stores (the Market, Hill Top, Lu Valle, etc.) go to funding USAC and student organizations. Most colleges have a private for-profit company running these stores (and the prices are equivalent). Not to mention the opportunity many UCLA students have to work at these places that recognize they are students first and allow flexible work schedules. ASUCLA stores may be slightly more expensive, but it is not a large corporation like Target and Ralph’s and cannot afford to cut prices. At the end of the day, ASUCLA stores are conveniently closer, and every penny spent goes to supporting fellow students and the events hosted for students. There’s a reason ASUCLA has the motto that “It all goes back to you.”
