UCLA officials cancelled all engineering classes for Thursday and Friday, following the campus shooting.

Classes were cancelled to allow students, faculty and staff to cope with the shooting, said UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science spokesperson Bill Kisiluk.

“(Members of) the engineering school experienced a tragedy today, and we think it is important to take stock for the day and proceed cautiously in the wake of this terrible event,” Kisiluk said.

All engineering, computer science and material sciences lectures and discussions are cancelled, Kisiluk said. However, students with non-engineering classes in engineering buildings should contact their professors to ask if classes will continue.

Some engineering students said they are worried they will not be able to cover class material for final exams or submit final projects on time.

Freddie Kennedy, a third-year computer science and engineering student, missed Wednesday’s lecture for Computer Science 33: “Introduction to Computer Organization,” one of the last opportunities to ask the professor questions before the Saturday final exam.

Kennedy said he would also miss a CS33 discussion on Friday, due to cancellation of classes.

“It’s like missing out on all opportunities to (prepare) for the finals,” Kennedy said. “At this point I can only rely at the (teaching assistant’s) office hours for help with the subject.”

Kennedy added the professor posted a video with suggestions on studying for the final. He said he was supposed to present a demonstration on Thursday, the last meeting for Computer Science M152A: “Introductory Digital Design Laboratory.”

However, his professor extended the deadline for the demonstration to Friday and students would have to come into his office hours to present, Kennedy said.

Kisiluk said final exams and commencement next week are expected to go on as scheduled.
