Editor’s note: The results mentioned in this post are not the official results of the undergraduate student government election. Responses were gathered anonymously through a survey available to all students on dailybruin.com.
In a Daily Bruin poll, all three Waves of Change candidates received majority votes for their respective contested positions.
The poll, which includes voting preferences and evaluation of this year’s current council members, received 308 votes by 4 p.m. Friday, 90 minutes before results would be announced.
About 53 percent of respondents reported they would vote Denea Joseph to be the next undergraduate student government president. Of 259 who responded, 138 said they support Joseph, a Waves of Change candidate.
For the external vice president position, about 57 percent, or 146 respondents, reported they would vote for Ria Jain, the Waves of Change external vice presidential candidate. The internal vice president position is uncontested.
Almost 60 percent of those surveyed reported they would vote Waves of Change candidate Amy Shao for Cultural Affairs Commissioner. Shao also served as this year’s Cultural Affairs Commissioner.
Waves of Change, a new student-run political group, or slate, is running three candidates for president, external vice president and Cultural Affairs commissioner in this year’s USAC election. Bruins United ran 11 candidates, and MakeUCLAGreatAgain is running one candidate.
Bruins United candidates Zoe Borden and Ruchit Majmudar and MakeUCLAGreatAgain candidate Shubham Goel led the polls for general representative, with 60.3, 57 and 53.3 percent of votes, respectively.
Independent candidate Inan Chowdhury gathered 47.9 percent of votes, and Bruins United candidate Sujith Cherukumilli gathered 41.3 percent. Respondents were asked to vote for up to three candidates, as three general representatives will serve on the undergraduate student government.
More than 56 percent of those surveyed reported the relevance of candidate’s platforms was the most sought after quality, followed by their past experience, with a 22.4 percent vote.
The election board will announce the official results of the undergraduate student government election at 5:30 p.m. Friday in Meyerhoff Park.
