The business improvement district for Westwood Village will continue to provide cleaning and public safety services for the Village after Westwood property owners approved its renewal Tuesday.
The LA City Council certified Wednesday the 10-year renewal for the Westwood Business Improvement District, operated by the Westwood Village Improvement Association, following property owners’ 80 percent vote in favor of its renewal, said Andrew Thomas, executive director of the association.
Business and property owners started the association in August 2011 to provide Westwood Village with services the city does not provide, such as street cleaning, landscaping and outreach to homeless individuals, he said.
Thomas said the association’s past two terms were three years long, but the board of directors decided last summer to extend the renewal to 10 years to demonstrate a larger commitment to the community. He added renewing the association less frequently will also save the organization $150,000 in renewal expenses.
“We can now start planning for the long-term future and health of our district,” Thomas said.
