The UCLA men’s golf team ended its regular season on a melancholy note.

Coming off a 14th-place performance at The Goodwin, the Bruins finished in ninth out of a field of 14 teams at the Western Intercollegiate in Santa Cruz, never really a threat for a top place on the leaderboard.

The team, which finished behind fellow Pac-12 squads Stanford, USC, Oregon, Cal, Washington and Arizona, has been in a slide since its second-place finish at the Amer Ari Invitational in February.

Individually, senior Lorens Chan led UCLA at the Western Intercollegiate with his season-best finish of 16th place, birdieing on the last hole. Fellow senior Jonathan Garrick tied for 37th place with sophomore Tyler Collier.

Freshmen Cole Madey had an impressive front nine, birdieing the fourth, fifth and ninth holes, but also suffered seven bogeys overall in the round, bringing his score to +12.

The Bruins will now turn their focus to the Pac-12 conference championship in Salt Lake City from April 29 to May 1. The team will hope to improve upon last year’s 8th place finish at the conference tournament.
