A UCLA student died Friday at the UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center, according to an email from UCLA Housing Services. He was 21.
Brian Kuan, a third-year cognitive science student who transferred from California Polytechnic State University Pomona, lived in the De Neve Holly dorm. Kuan was from Walnut, California, according to his Facebook page.
A vigil in Kuan’s memory was held in the De Neve quad Sunday at 7 p.m. Attendees were encouraged to bring candles and pictures of Kuan to the vigil.
UCLA Housing officials organized a counseling session Friday with staff from Counseling and Psychological Services, according to the email. Officials also announced a follow-up session will be held Monday in the De Neve Holly community lounge.
“We are all in sorrow at his early departure from this world, but together, we can lend strength and comfort to one another,” housing officials posted on Facebook. “His mantra was always ‘live it up,’ so let’s honor him and #LiveItUpForBrian.”
Housing officials said anybody who needs help can come to the Residential Life office in Gardenia to speak with a professional staff member, or contact Counseling and Psychological Services at 310-825-0768 to speak with a counselor at any time.
Please refrain from some words when taking the grieving party into consideration and use “passed away” instead. Thank you for your service to Mr.. Kuan, my fellow UCLA student.
