Los Angeles college students may be able to buy cheaper Metro bus passes in August through a partnership between LA County Metro and Los Angeles universities.
Metro spokesperson Dave Sotero said officials will collaborate with Los Angeles colleges to subsidize bus passes for students, but was unsure how much the new passes would cost.
UCLA students can currently buy a bus pass for about $60 per quarter through UCLA Transportation. A pass for fall quarter costs $65, one for winter quarter is $55 and one for spring quarter is $60.
Metro currently charges college students $43 for a 30-day pass. A regular 30-day pass costs $100.
UCLA officials said in an email statement that they are working with Metro officials and other universities on the pass, but they are unsure whether any outcome would be cheaper than the options UCLA currently offers.
The officials added they do not expect any changes to the subsidized transit pass options through the end of the calendar year.
